bring to 2023

[00:00:00] Hey everyone. Welcome back to another episode of the Lifted Podcast. My name is Peyton. Happy Monday. Hope you guys are having a good start of your week. Before you do anything else, make sure you leave this podcast a rating and review. It would mean the absolute world to me as that is how these platforms share it to more people, so it would mean a lot.

So thank you in advance. This episode is going up the day after Christmas, so if you guys celebrate, I hope you guys had a Merry Christmas. Um, I'm recording this before Christmas though, so I cannot tell you how mine went. So, so when this is going up, there is a week until New Year's. So I thought for today's episode, I would do things that I'm bringing into 2023.

I'm not gonna make a New Year's resolution video because I. Don't necessarily believe in New Year's resolutions. I set monthly goals for myself and I set weekly goals for myself, and then I write down tasks every single day that I do to make sure that I reach those goals. So yes, I do make [00:01:00] yearly goals, but at the same time, I don't like the.

I don't like what New Year's resolutions have really turned into because, you know, joining the gym for a week and then never going again and just telling yourself that you're gonna do something over and over again every single year. Never actually going anywhere with it. Not a big fan of those. So, I will not be making a New Year's Resolution video, but this is gonna be kind of the closest thing.

I do have goals, so I'll share some of those at the end of this. So, Before we hop into it, I'm gonna give you my lift of the week. So as of last Friday, , I got into my top choice university. So I now have six months here in my little hometown and I will be packing up and moving away. So I'm definitely very excited, very nervous, but definitely a good thing.

I've had it. Honestly, my lift of the week has been in my entire week. I've. Such a good week, and it started with that. And then I just had a [00:02:00] really, really great work week, some great time with my clients and my brother's home for the holidays. So I've had family and it's just, it's definitely been one of the best weeks of the entire year, so, That is my lift is honestly just the entire week.

So, all right, so I have different categories of things that I'm gonna be bringing into 2023. So I'm gonna go ahead and start off with the gym category. Some things that I wanna achieve in the gym, and then also just some different. Things that I want to bring into the new year when it comes to my gym routine and just my health overall.

So the first thing is mobility, and I feel like that's a basic thing that a lot of people say that they wanna get into, but I definitely need to work on that more because I, I'm pretty, I mean, I'm decently flexible, but I think that. I, I see all these videos of all the mobility routines, and I think that that would be so cool to be able to do.

I really wanna focus more on just body weight things this year, because, I mean, I'm a lifter at heart. I love lifting weights, [00:03:00] but I also love to see calisthenics, so pull-ups and dips and all these different body weight movements, and the more intense ones are definitely the coolest looking things ever to me.

So, , I wanna be able to, I don't know if you guys have heard of it, it's like a dragon squat. It is the coolest looking thing I've ever seen, and that is definitely a goal of mine because it looks awesome. So it's like a pistol squat, but it's 10 times harder because I can do pistol squats, but I cannot do this dragon squat.

I recommend looking it up if this was a video I would show you, but it is so cool looking, so I would love to be able to do. and honestly, just remembering to stretch after my lifts puts me into such a good head space because most of the time for me, after I'm lifting, if I'm already listening to worship during my lifts, if I'm listening to like some hardcore uff, I'm lifting.

It's really nice for me after to roll out a yoga mat and then just. Roll out and stretch to [00:04:00] some worship music because it really just puts me in a good head space for the rest of the day because I'm an earlier in the day lifter or like mid-afternoon. So it's definitely a really great habit to do. I, I remember it most of the time, especially after leg days, I stretch a lot, but I definitely need to get better with warming up for upper body and cooling down after upper body.

So that's definitely something that I will be bringing into 2023. The next thing is something that I've already been focusing on a little bit more, and that is working core more at rhymes. Anyways, I, it's not even the fact that I want abs. Yes, I want abs and I fully understand that those are made in the kitchen and I need to lose this little layer of chunk that I have if I want abs.

But I'm okay with my little bit of chunk that I have because I know I, I'm, I'm strong. But I would like to lean out a little bit this year. I'm getting, I'm getting. Topic but core. I feel like there's so many benefits to training [00:05:00] core outside of. Just the look of ab. So I would love to seek those benefits out.

So as much as I dislike training core, I know that I should be training it a little bit more this year. So I've been doing it once or twice a week recently, and nothing too intense. I'm not doing like a 20 minute intense ab workout. It's just towards the end of a couple of my lifts per week. I'll do a couple sets of a little circuit.

I've been enjoying that. Well, I haven't really been enjoying that, but I, I have, it's , I don't like training core, but it's, I would rather do cardio, honestly, than train core, but it's fine. Just, we're gonna do the things that we don't like because that is where discipline comes in. Another thing that I want to bring into 2023 is a new mindset with hitting my macro goals.

I, I need to be more. Understanding when it comes to that stuff because my mind is [00:06:00] still so like protein over everything. And then also in my head, I've been reverse dieting, so I keep telling myself like, I need to get to this number so that my body gets used to it, but some days I'm just not that hungry.

So I need to stop telling myself I need to eat that many calories regardless, because I need to just listen to what my body wants to eat and what it doesn't want to. again, I don't, I don't, there's, there's a fine line between that. I feel like though, because I listen to some people and they're like, your body will tell you what it wants to eat.

Look, I. love food. I am. I'm a foodie, so if I listen to my body on what it wants to eat, I am going to gorge myself with all of the delicious foods all of the time. So I don't plan on just listening to my body fully. I will still be focusing on protein and whole foods and nutritious nu nutritionally dense.

Anyways, foods, I don't know why [00:07:00] that was so hard for me to say, but. At the same time, I also need to remember that if it's the end of the night and my tracker says I was like 300 calories short, I do not need to find something that's gonna fill me past the point of comfort if I'm not hungry. So definitely something I need to start doing.

This one is huge for me, and I will fully admit I need to get so much better at this. Everything else is like, Yeah, I need to get better, but like, I'm not bad at, but this one, I, I'm gonna be honest, I'm horrible with it. And that is having a flexible schedule around the gym. And this is, I'm gonna talk about this in multiple different aspects, but.

I am so obsessed with the gym and lifting and never missing a workout, and that stems a lot from a lot of deeper . Let's turn this into a little therapy session. You know, just me sitting in front of a mic explaining my [00:08:00] brain. Chemicals, but 2022 has been a big year reflection for me. So let me just share with you what I learned because you know, I'm gonna be nice and vulnerable on here because I might be able to help someone and that is the goal.

But I have found this year when I was reflecting, I, I've just so deep into the gym and lifting and all of it. I am obsessed with it. And that's not a bad thing. I know that, but I was trying to figure out why I get so. , it is a bad thing when you, you can't miss a workout and you start to find your identity in it, because my identity should be in God because obviously, yeah, but I was finding so much identity in it and I, I realized it was because this , this is gonna sound bad in a way, but like, I'm not trying to, okay, this is not me trying to brag about myself.

This is genuinely how I think that this is for me. So, , I became so obsessed with the gym because if you listen to my past episodes, then [00:09:00] you know that I, I grew up really overweight and I, I don't have good lifting genetics at all. Like my build isn't necessarily the best for lifting and body building and all of that.

So I have to work really, really hard just to look the way that I do, and that is something that I take a lot of pride in now is my physique and the way that I look and the way that I feel. But I didn't always have that, and that is honestly one of the only things that I've ever really. Really struggled with because the rest for me, like when it comes to my schooling and stuff like that, it's just, I've always kind of just had it and it, this is , this is gonna sound so bad, but like I've always just been like ahead of my grade level.

I've always been super smart. I come from a good family, so I've never really had some of those like deeper issues. And I like guilted myself about it and it's like, how is that my fault? Like how am I. Guilt myself over the fact that I have a good life and that I'm just so blessed. So it's definitely something that, that's the reason that I became [00:10:00] so obsessed with the gym is that it's the one thing that I didn't really just have naturally was my physique and my athleticism.

So I just wanted to keep going and that's why I'm such an overachiever and I, I do so much in my day-to-day life because it's like, I feel like I need to. , and that's something that I have to work through and I'm still working through right now. But now that my, um, heart and soul is into this episode, let's, uh, let's continue onto a little bit less of a extreme goal, and that is just less caffeine.

I'm a caffeine addict and I'm not using the word addict as like a. , she love caffeine. Like, no, I've been drinking coffee every single morning since seventh grade. So now when I don't have caffeine, I do, I develop a headache. So , no, I'm like an actual addict. I, I have withdrawals, but I haven't done anything to stop it, nor I'm not gonna do anything to stop the coffee thing because it's, it's really not that bad.

I [00:11:00] don't load my coffee up with sugar. So a cup of. Decently black coffee with a little bit of cream in it is not gonna do anything detrimental to my health. And whatever stunt your growth, I'm, I'm done growing and I have been done growing, so I'm, I'm good. But then in the last year, I've also picked up that I work at my gym, so there's like a vending thing there.

So I picked up a. great habit of every single day. I have an energy drink on top of my coffee, not on top of it as in like right after, but like I wake up early in the morning, so around six or seven, sometimes eight. If I'm sleeping in, I have a cup of coffee and I'm, when I go to the gym around noon, I have an energy drink and then sometimes later in the day, this isn't as common, but like even recently, I also, right next door to my work is a Duncan.

So sometimes after. I will also run in and grab a coffee at like [00:12:00] 4:00 PM So that's a lot of caffeine on a day-to-day basis that I don't think is healthy for me. So I, I think I should simmer down on like, caffeine this year. Um, just maybe not an energy drink before every single lift, because, um, that's a lot.

As much as I love it, I'm just gonna, I'm gonna take a chill pill with it this year. Stay in tune. And then the last gym thing that I want to. Bring into 2023 is more diversity in my workouts. So again, I'm a lifter at heart, but I also lift six times a week. So maybe this year I wanna incorporate some other styles of training just to see what I like.

I mean, I'm not gonna go full Pilate yoga girl on us, but um, I, I'm definitely interested in trying some different workouts to see how it shapes out my body different from lifting and just to see what makes me feel good. And I know that lifting can be intense on the body, so I'm [00:13:00] not sure if it's the best to do it six times a week every single week.

But I mean, I love it. So I'm definitely not gonna be stopping lifting anytime. Anytime soon whatsoever. Um, God willing, of course, but I would love to try, like when I go off to college, I would love to go to go to a yoga class and just try some different things because I would love to see all the ways that my body can move and function.

I think that that's such a gift that we take for, um, For granted. I don't know why that took me so long to think of that word, but I think there's so many different movements that you can do, and I've gotten to this really, really strict routine. And sometimes routines are great. I love routines, but sometimes it can be good to change things up a little bit, get outta my comfort zone.

So that is definitely a big goal. Now onto. Not gym related things. And the first one is skincare. And I, I have a skincare routine, but I really need to focus more [00:14:00] on my timing of my skincare. So for example, like every night after I shower, that's when I do my skincare. Sometimes I'll put moisturizer on in the morning, but.

I've gotten kind of lazy with it, and I can tell because my skin is not looking too good right now. I look like I'm going through puberty as like a fifth grade boy or something. Wait, guys don't go through puberty in fifth grade, do they? I don't know. Like seventh grade, boy, I don't know. But yeah, I'm having breakouts a lot recently.

So, and not even just my face. Like I get so insecure when I take my shirt off in the gym and my back has acne all over it. Like it makes me so insecure. So most of the time, like I won't even take off my shirt in the gym because I just hate the way that it looks. I feel like it looks gross and I know it's not.

It's just for me because like if I see other people with acne on their back, I won't think twice about it. I'm like, yeah, that's normal. But for some reason with me, I think it's so gross. So I definitely need to take more care of that and figure that out. This. , I'm thinking most of it is gonna be the fact that I don't shower right after I work out.

So it's gonna be [00:15:00] like I'm sitting in a sports bra all day. So, but I also don't really know what to do about that, considering most of the time I go to work right after I work out. So it's just gotta figure that out for sure. Maybe like bring a little cleanser with me and just like rub down my back as much as I can trying to figure it out or like bring a change of sports bras.

I don't know. , I definitely, it makes me really insecure in my shoulders too, so definitely need to figure that out. . The next thing that I'm bringing with me into 2023 is definitely this whole like content creation. I really started to flip my brain and realize that this can be a really serious thing for me this year.

So I'm just gonna bring that with me into 2023 and just keep pushing, keep grinding, and do everything that I can. I wanna start a YouTube channel this year. I wanna go all in, go into all the different platforms, really focus on my content, this podcast, because I truly love it, and. This is what I [00:16:00] wanna do, so definitely gonna just keep driving with this in the new year and just push harder than I did this.

The next thing I really wanna focus on in 2023 is, Bringing my Bible in nature more often because that is honestly where I feel the closest to God no matter what. It's always just on my walks while I'm driving with the windows down, sitting by the water, hiking, anything like that, like that is where I find God.

So I need to just focus on more. Just bring my Bible with me, places that I go and just do Bible study outside because I find that those are my absolute best. times that I have. So I ne I definitely need to bring more of that into 2023. So I'm a big nature person already, but sometimes like I'll just read my Bible inside in my room and that's still good, obviously.

And like I still enjoy it, but outside it's just a million times better, especially [00:17:00] in the beginning of the year because I live in Florida so. January's a little cold, but February, March, April, that weather is so perfect. I love the spring here. It is my absolute favorite when it starts to get a little bit warm, but it's still not summer because our summers are, um, um, let's see.

Our summers are disgusting, so don't recommend moving to Florida in the summer. It's brutal. So, And actually I found this podcast is another thing related to Bible study. I found this podcast that is, um, the Bible in a year. So I think I'm gonna start that this year because that sounds perfect for me.

I've, I've never read the Bible cover to cover, which is still something that I wanna do. But putting it into podcast form so I can listen to it every single day sounds ideal for me. And especially coming from a pastor so that he can kind of. bring things into perspective [00:18:00] for me rather than, I don't know.

I mean, I would still love to read the Bible cover to cover and it's something that I wanna do, but 365 days of podcasts sounds. very foolproof, and I can have absolutely no excuses when it comes to it. So that will be a podcast. I'll be starting in the new year. I have absolutely no idea why, but in between every single clip I have been like chugging water, my voice.

I'm sorry. I know it probably sa, I don't know why I'm like, , I'm dying for water right now, but I guess that's another thing to bring into the new year. I already drank a ton of water, but if you're looking for ideas, if that's what this uh, podcast episode is doing for you, then uh, definitely recommend making water a habit in your new year.

You will see so much of a difference if you, um, oh, I, sorry, I'm like a squirrel, but I'm probably chugging water because I just took my creatine. But anyway. [00:19:00] water is super important, so highly recommend bringing that into your New Year's Stay hydrated. The next thing is to just be more present. And I know that sounds so basic, but this last coup, these last few weeks, I have been feeling so present and just like in the moment, so I've, and it's been a great couple weeks, so definitely need to focus on that more instead of just worrying about the future so much, like especially now knowing that I'm, I have a time.

In my hometown. So I need to just take it all in because, I mean, I complain about this place a lot. I'm like, oh, I don't, I don't have a lot of friends here and I don't, I don't want, there's nothing to do, but this is where I grew up and I need to just take it in while I can because I know that I'm gonna miss it when I move away.

So definitely just being more present in this year and also like, , when I do move away, be more present there too and just take it all in because these are times in my life that I'm never gonna get back. And there's gonna be a lot of memories along the way. So just being more present, stop worrying [00:20:00] about the future so much.

Because while it's important to think about, it's also not, you can't do anything in the moment more than you can do in the moment. , listen to that again. And then the last thing that I wanna bring into 2023 is just more writing. I used to be huge on writing, just all the time. Like I would write, I would write poems, I would just write and write.

but like I just haven't really been doing that recently, but it's something that I've always loved to do. Like I write down my weekly and monthly goals, but I don't just write for fun anymore. And that's something that I used to love and there's so much that I could do with it and just write things that I'm passionate about.

So definitely wanna bring that back into my life. because I'm also a huge reader. So I love, I, one of my biggest goals one day is to write a book. So definitely if I wanna publish a book, I gotta start, uh, practicing more again, because, you know, you, you lose is kind of like your, your flow with writing if you stop for a while.

So I wanna get back [00:21:00] into it. So, , you know, just little things that I wanna just start up again. So that is all that I have for you guys for this episode. I hope you guys enjoyed, if you got some ideas of things that you wanna bring into the new year as well. I tried to be a little bit more creative other than, you know, make my bed every day, work out and eat healthy.

You know, because that's like, yes. That stuff is important also. Yeah. Make your bed. There's a lot of benefits to it. It's just a good start to the day. But, uh, yes, work out. Yes, eat healthy, but there's a lot of little things that we don't really think about and just, especially like when it comes to our head space, I think that those goals are the most rewarding at the end of the day, because like, yeah, you can work out and look a certain way for as long as you can, but at the end of the day, your mind is gonna be where you live the most.

I love that having like a word of the year has become a thing. So my word for 2023 is fearless, because you know, this [00:22:00] year I really stepped out of my comfort zone a lot and I wanna just continue doing that because it has been so rewarding. So that is my big word of the year. So that is what I have for you guys for today's episode.
